Breathe Onto The Mirror Artist Statement

My work engages with the environment but does not privilege the space behind the surface. The surface of my work does not enclose space as much as shelter it. The exterior and interior function together, both are decorative and ornamental components that provide a condition of being and circumstance, rewarding the viewer though experience. These paintings are objects that do not put significance entirely towards their materiality, stature, or monetary value. Rather, these objects activate understanding, empathy and agency. These bright, attractive, and enchanting objects privilege the space before us. The objects that I make celebrate their difference from everything around them and acknowledge our difference in the world. These paintings are unique, authentic, imaginative, and special.
